A small startup is challenging Vinted. In its new ad the message is blunt. Forget about Vinted, rent your stuff on Beylo instead of selling it. And it makes a lot of sense. Why would you sell your paddleboard if you can make more money renting it out to people all summer?

Full disclosure before we go any further. The small startup is us. The ad runs five seconds on YouTube and you can watch it here. We made it because the two ideas really are different, and the difference is worth five seconds of anyone’s time.

Vinted is brilliant for the jacket you have not worn since 2023. Sell it and done. But a paddleboard in Mallorca is a different animal. You still use it in July, and your cousin borrows it in August. The season here stretches into October, and the day after you sell it, someone always suggests a beach.

Selling that board pays you once, and secondhand prices are not kind. Renting it out pays you every weekend it leaves the house, and in autumn the board is still yours. The same logic covers the pressure washer in the garage, the party speaker, the drill that has worked forty minutes in its whole life, and the tent from that one camping phase.

Beylo is a peer-to-peer rental marketplace made in Mallorca. People on the island list what they own, neighbours rent it by the day, and payment happens inside the platform. Listing is free and the app takes a small commission only when you earn something.

So before the next wardrobe clear-out reaches the garage, walk through it once with different eyes. Somewhere between the pressure washer and the tent sits a thing that could meet its first customer this weekend.
